Privacy Policy

How pharaonic.dev measures its use, and the choice you have about it.

In short

  • There are no accounts, forms or logins here, and the site sets no cookies of its own.
  • Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are only loaded if you accept analytics.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies.
  • You can change your choice at any time from “Cookie settings” in the footer (or the docs sidebar).

What we measure, and why

Pharaonic is open source, maintained by volunteers. Measuring how the site is used tells us which packages to invest in, which documentation is missing or unclear, and what gets in your way. With your permission, we record:

  • pages viewed, and which package, technology and documentation version they belong to;
  • which documentation sections were read, and when a code example or install command was copied (not the code itself);
  • documentation searches: the search term, how many results it found, and which result was opened;
  • clicks to a package's GitHub repository, its Packagist page, or a sponsorship page;
  • addresses that led to a “page not found” error, without their query string.

We never send names, email addresses, account details or anything you type other than search terms. Search terms are shortened, and anything that looks like an email address, a long number or a key is removed before it's sent, so please don't search for personal information.

Services we use

Google Analytics 4 (Google) counts visits and the events above. It sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) and only loads after you accept. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and the site runs no advertising. See Google's privacy policy.

Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft) records how pages are used (clicks, scrolling and mouse movement) as session replays and heatmaps, so we can spot broken or confusing pages. Clarity masks text you enter by default. It sets cookies such as _clck and _clsk and only loads after you accept. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Cloudflare Web Analytics (Cloudflare) counts page views, referrers and page-load performance without cookies, local storage or fingerprinting, so it runs for every visit. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Algolia DocSearch (Algolia) powers the search box: what you type is sent to Algolia to find results, and your recent searches are kept in your own browser.

Your choice

The first time you visit, we ask whether you accept analytics. Accepting and rejecting are equally easy, and nothing from Google or Microsoft loads until you accept. Your answer is kept in your browser's local storage (pharaonic.consent) and never sent to us.

To change it, use “Cookie settings” in the footer. If you turn analytics off, it stops right away and the Google Analytics and Clarity cookies are removed. Clearing your browser's site data resets your choice, and we'll ask again.
